Fundamentals of Family Constellations
12-month training on Long Island, 2018
This course is for students who have had some exposure to Family (Systemic) Constellations and want to know more. It is an introduction and exploration of the underpinnings of the experiential perspective, and can serve as the foundation for Facilitation at the same time as it invites people to expand their own growth vocabulary.
I have taught this course for over 15 years — and yet its rhythm and language emerges out of each group that comes together. Thus, it is a class with roots that is always new.
We are currently accepting applications for February. Our goal is to bring together a serious student body that shares an urgency about making a contribution to life, whether in the personal or public sphere. Together, we will make practical what feels so improbable and open to the beautiful paradoxes of active engagement: To be in accord with a life that is moving is restful! We can be more loyal to the past by becoming less loyal to it! We are essential to life, and yet it goes on without us!
February 10-12, 2018 (3 days)
In the first segment, we will investigate the meaning of “belonging.” Will we always “be longing” for what we didn’t experience as children? Can we move into a larger circle so as not to replicate old pa-rameters? Are we permitted to move beyond the limitations of the past? What does it mean to stand on the shoulders of our ancestors?
June 9-11, 2018 (3 days)
The second segment will introduce the importance of “order” — Love’s own truths — and the difference between intrinsic and earned love. We will look at the hierarchy of order and what happens as we move forward when the original order between parent and child has been distorted. We will consider the events that became our inheritances and how our legacies can be different. We will explore the balance of give-and-take in current relationships, both personal and professional.
September 14-16, 2018 (3 days)
The third segment will focus on the common areas where we become “stuck” in our loyalties and the double bind of love and resentment. What is our relationship to money? to success? to trust? to commitment? How are these relationships connected to the systemic maps of our family of origin, of our historical context, of our cultural bonds and rejections? The group will determine what topics are most alive for us before meeting for the third segment.
December 7-9, 2018 (3 days)
In the final segment we will step into a wide view of the landscape ahead. We will explore the ways in which the fundamental concepts of belonging, order, and balance can be galvanized toward changing the course of our lives to embrace a more optimistic, confident commitment to ourselves, and therefore to the future. Old or young, what will we do with the time we are given?
Throughout our time together, exercises will be provided for in-class and out-of-class experience; homework and readings will be assigned; and opportunities to interact between sessions will be provided.
